The beginning
Fir-ever Young was released during the 2010s by Velvet & Sweet Pea's Purrfumery, formulated by Laurie Stern. The composition draws on real conifer absolutes, the deep, resinous extracts that carry far more nuance than synthetic pine ever manages. Stern was interested in stacking multiple fir species rather than relying on a single green note: Douglas fir, silver fir, grand fir, blue spruce, and noble fir each contribute a slightly different shade of green and resin, and together they build a forest-like density that feels layered and alive. Each species has its own character, from the bright lift of silver fir to the darker, more brooding presence of blue spruce, and the blend treats those differences as the point.
What sets this composition apart is the sheer density of conifer materials working together. Fir-ever Young layers five distinct fir species alongside juniper and frankincense, creating a stacked green architecture that smells complex rather than one-note. The evolution
The first thirty minutes are all blackcurrant and fruit, almost jammy, with the firs lurking underneath like a green shadow. Frankincense and the heavier fir absolutes rise to the top, and the composition shifts from fruity-fresh to dense and sappy.
