The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Alexandra Monet built POOL around a single vivid image: a poolside afternoon where sunblock, gazpacho, and cold raspberries converge. The brief was clear, capture that specific moment of summer leisure, the kind of afternoon that becomes a seasonal anchor. What emerged is more complex than a typical fresh fragrance. Tomato leaf and coriander give POOL an herbal depth that goes beyond the usual citrus-and-water approach, while the red pepper in the base adds an earthy warmth that carries the scent into evening. It's casual in the best sense, the kind of fragrance you reach for without thinking, the one that earns its place on the shelf by being worn constantly from May through September.
POOL gets its character from an unlikely pairing: cucumber and tomato leaf. Together, they read less like an aquatic and more like wet garden stones beside a pool, cool, green, and faintly vegetable. The blackcurrant adds a tart, almost medicinal edge that balances the sweeter top notes, while the red pepper base brings an earthy warmth rarely found in summer scents. It's fresh without being trivial, green without being sharp, warm without being heavy. The result feels specific rather than generic, this is the smell of a specific afternoon, not the idea of summer.
The evolution
POOL opens with an immediate burst of cool. Cucumber and raspberry arrive together, the fruit's sweetness softened by lychee and a bright hit of bergamot. It reads like cold water hitting sun-warmed skin, sharp, clean, refreshing. The top notes hold for the first thirty minutes before the composition shifts. Tomato leaf becomes more present, and with it comes a green, herbal quality that feels almost savory. Blackcurrant adds a tart, slightly medicinal note. Lily of the valley softens the transition, and coriander introduces a subtle spice that builds quietly. By hour two, the scent has moved into its heart, still fresh, but with more complexity. The drydown is where POOL settles into itself. Musk and red pepper create a warm, close presence that stays near the skin rather than projecting outward. Ginger lingers as a clean, sharp finish. On most skin types, POOL lasts 6-8 hours, with moderate sillage that stays intimate. On fabric, the raspberry and lychee persist longest.
Cultural impact
POOL has found an audience among those seeking summer freshness that avoids the typical aquatic clichés. It works as a reference point for green, herbal, and ozonic accords within indie fragrance circles. The 6-8 hour longevity makes it practical for daily wear, with moderate sillage that stays close to the skin rather than filling a room.
