01 Like a Flower (In Bloom) is a 2025 release from Three, part of the brand's Essential Scents collection. The composition opens with a cognac-tinged brightness before settling into a floral heart of geranium, lavender, and rose, anchored by a grounded base of cedarwood, patchouli, and pine. It's a reformulation of the original 01 In Bloom, launched in 2023, refined toward a more nuanced, layered expression of the flower motif the brand uses as its creative thread. The scent moves from a warm, spirited top into something cooler and more herbaceous at its core, then finishes with the dry, almost meditative stillness of coniferous woods and soft earth. Each phase reads clearly on its own, but the real interest is in how they fold into one another.
What makes this composition distinctive is the tension between the cognac top and the pine-cedar base. The bridge between these two poles is the floral heart, where actual coniferous material anchors the petals in something rooted and real. Patchouli adds an earthy weight that prevents the rose and geranium from drifting too delicate, grounding them with a soft, soil-like undertone that hums beneath the surface. The lavender threads through the middle phase like a herbal coolness, cutting the sweetness of ylang-ylang and keeping the whole thing from tipping into syrup.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes feel almost like a different fragrance. Cognac and bergamot create a bright, almost boozy shimmer, with ylang-ylang adding a tropical fullness underneath. That golden opening doesn't last long. By the thirty-minute mark, the geranium and lavender take over, pulling the composition into something greener, more herbal, more grounded. Rose shows up here too, but quietly, tucked behind the geranium's leafy bite. The way the top notes recede and the florals rise feels deliberate, like watching one chapter close as another opens. The drydown is where this earns its keep. Cedarwood and pine settle into a dry, slightly resinous woodiness that has real presence. The original 01 In Bloom offered a simpler take on the flower theme, while this version layers in more complexity through its coniferous base and boozy cognac opening. The addition of pine and cedar to a floral composition creates a more unusual foundation than the typical musk or white woods approach, giving the scent a distinctive dryness that sets it apart.
