The Story
Why it exists.
Zaga Colovic set out to capture the pure power of a single bloom, turning tuberose into a standalone statement. In 2022 The Perfume Atelier expanded its narrative range beyond the city‑inspired Belgrade line, releasing Tuberose Absolute as a floral concentration that foregrounds the flower’s heady, animalic heart. The perfumer paired the intense tuberose with bright Mediterranean citrus, bergamot, orange and neroli, to frame the blossom, while coconut and lime blossom added a creamy, green lift. The base of vanilla, tonka bean, sandalwood and ambergris grounds the composition, giving it a warm, lingering finish that echoes the house’s commitment to intimate, journal‑like storytelling.

The Beginning
The choice of coconut and lime (linden) blossom is deliberate: coconut supplies a milky, lactonic veil that softens tuberose’s raw animalic edge, while lime’s crisp green note injects freshness, preventing the heart from becoming overly sweet. Ambergris in the base introduces a subtle marine nuance, a nod to the atelier’s practice of blending natural extracts with modern synthetics for depth without heaviness. This balance of bright top, creamy heart and warm drydown makes the fragrance stand out among single‑note florals.
The Evolution
The opening erupts with a flash of bergamot’s citrus sparkle, quickly joined by orange’s juicy zest and neroli’s honeyed green, creating a sun‑lit prelude that feels like a fresh morning in a Mediterranean garden. Within ten minutes the composition pivots as tuberose absolute unfurls, its rich, heady petals enveloped by a silky coconut cream; lime (linden) blossom and orange blossom weave a verdant, slightly tart ribbon through the floral mass, keeping the heart lively. As the scent settles, the initial brightness fades, leaving the tuberose‑coconut core to meld with the warm ambergris‑tinged base. Vanilla and tonka bean introduce a sweet, gourmand glow, while sandalwood adds a smooth woody anchor. The ambergris lingers as a faint marine whisper, extending the drydown into a soft, sensual veil that persists for six to eight hours before gently receding, leaving only a faint memory of citrus‑sweet warmth on the skin.
Cultural Impact
Among niche collectors, Tuberose Absolute is praised for turning a single‑note obsession into a balanced fragrance. Its tuberose intensity draws fans of bold florals, while the coconut and vanilla soften the animalic edge, making it a conversation starter in perfume circles. The scent’s modest price and limited‑run ethos reinforce The Perfume Atelier’s reputation for thoughtful, journal‑like creations that invite personal interpretation.
