Why it exists.
The beginning
Memories Extrait de Parfum landed in 2025 as part of The Gate Fragrances Paris Love Collection, a project dedicated to scents that carry emotional weight. The extrait format, carrying a higher concentration of aromatic compounds than the original eau de parfum, was chosen to preserve the full depth of that vision. This is the version meant to linger. On skin, the opening rounds out with the warmth of caramelised sugar and toasted hazelnut, a sweetness both golden and dense, layered over the soft lactic creaminess of milk accord that settles close to the body. As the hours pass, the gourmand lift gives way to a base of smoky oud, dark patchouli, and a thread of warm amber resin, each one grounding the composition without flattening it.
What's distinctive here is the tension between gourmand sweetness and something older, less edible. Black cherry and black raspberry read like confectionery at first glance, but the heart introduces dark tobacco and frankincense, materials that pull the composition toward incense and resin rather than bakery. That friction between fruit-shop sweetness and the gravity of tobacco smoke is where Memories earns its name. Add the frangipani between them, creamy and solar, and the whole thing starts to feel less like a dessert and more like a memory of one, softened by time, hazy at the edges.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are loud and obvious, black cherry and black raspberry stacked together, jammy and almost syrupy, the kind of opening that announces itself across a room. Then the fruit steps back and the heart takes over, frangipani's waxy cream landing first, followed by dark tobacco's dry, leathery pull and frankincense's cool resin haze. The smoke isn't sharp. It's the smoke of a candle that's been burning for hours. By the two-hour mark, the maple syrup and tonka bean rise up underneath, and the composition shifts from smoky-fruity to something warmer, almost like burnt caramel stretching into vanilla. Six hours in, what remains is that maple-tonka blend sitting close to skin, sweet but grown-up, with the ghost of tobacco still threading through. On fabric the next morning, it's mostly tonka and resin, soft and close.
