Why it exists.
The beginning
Inside Out is part of The Gate Fragrances Paris's Love Collection, a line that treats scent as a threshold to feeling. Launched in 2025, it sits alongside the original Eau de Parfum as the extrait version, meaning a higher concentration of aromatic compounds and a slower, denser evolution on skin. The brief was an oriental that challenges reality: waves of iced mandarin and passion fruit opening, a base of vanilla ice cream that anchors everything in edible sweetness. Between those poles, absinthe wormwood and rosemary do the unexpected work.
What makes Inside Out interesting is the gap between its opening and its finish. Most fruit-led fragrances stay bright and simple, but here the passion fruit and sorbet are flanked by Thai basil and blackcurrant bud. Those green, slightly bitter aromatics give the fruit backbone, lending a leafy sharpness that prevents the opening from reading as one-dimensional or syrupy. There's an almost herbal coolness to the way the basil threads through the tropical sweetness, keeping the fruit tethered to something grounded and botanical rather than candied.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are cold and quick. Passion fruit and mandarin lead with a near-frozen brightness, sorbet sweetness braided through Thai basil and blackcurrant bud. It's sharp, almost mentholated, the kind of opening that makes someone nearby ask what you're wearing before you've left the house. Around the thirty-minute mark, the green cools and the absinthe arrives, wormwood's bittersweet lift cutting through frangipani and magnolia. The rosemary is there too, giving the heart a clean, herbal clarity that keeps the fruit from collapsing into jam. By hour two, the composition tilts warmer. The florals recede and the vanilla ice cream starts pulling the whole thing toward skin, creamy and soft but never sugary. Through hour three and into four, the drydown is mostly that cream-vanilla warmth, with a trace of the green basil still flickering underneath. On fabric the next morning, it's a clean, milky sweetness with a whisper of the original fruit.

Inside Out wears like something the wearer catches between moments rather than something projected outward, a scent that tends to stay close to the skin and reveal itself in soft pulses throughout the day.
