The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Woody Herbs is a 2026 release from The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a line that reimagines established scent profiles through a contemporary lens. Perfumer Mahsam Raza built the composition around a deliberate interplay of aromatics, woods, and soft basenotes, treating each material as a collaborator rather than a solo player. Bergamot opens bright, its citrus lift cutting cleanly into the air before the herbal elements gather underneath. Cypress leans sharp, almost mineral, giving the opening a taut, focused quality. A backbone of pine and moss anchors everything in something green and grounded, a vegetal weight that keeps the brighter notes from drifting away.
What makes the structure work is the tension between two kinds of green. Bergamot and rosemary are aromatic greens, clean and almost culinary, like fresh herbs pulled from a windowsill. Pine and moss are forest greens, darker and more resinous, carrying the damp, earthy weight of shade. Cedar bridges them, woody enough to give the composition substance without flattening the herbal lift that runs through the heart. As the composition settles, vanilla drops in late to keep the drydown from going too austere, its sweetness threading quietly beneath the woods.
The evolution
The opening belongs to bergamot and cypress, sharp and almost metallic with the cold green of cracked foliage and crushed stems. As the composition warms against the skin, rosemary arrives and shifts the mood into something warmer and more herbal, a green that feels alive and aromatic rather than bracing. The pine enters and the whole picture deepens, the greens thickening into something more resinous, almost coniferous in its fullness. Underneath, amber begins to glow through the herbs, a golden warmth that wasn't visible at the start. Vanilla and cedar settle into the composition as it develops, taking over the conversation completely as the herbs recede but never disappear entirely, leaving a faint aromatic trace underneath the wood. In the later hours, what remains is cedar and amber carrying a whisper of moss, with the vanilla threading softly through both.
Cultural impact
Woody Herbs sits squarely within the woody aromatic category, a fragrance family known for its blend of herbal top notes and woody basenotes, and the composition leans into that heritage with conviction. The herbal core makes it more aromatic than traditional barbershop scents, with rosemary and bergamot giving it a brightness that reads as garden and windowsill rather than cologne counter. It's grounded without feeling heavy, carrying enough moss and pine to give it depth without tipping into the denser territory of straight woody or oriental compositions.
