The beginning
Sparkling Royal belongs to By Kilian's The Cocktails collection, a lineup built around the ritual of the aperitif. This particular composition draws its inspiration from the Kir Royal, the French drink of crème de cassis topped with sparkling wine. Calice Becker is the perfumer behind it. The house launched the scent in 2026, joining a range that treats each fragrance like a drink order, a moment, a mood already set. On skin, the opening bursts with a tart, almost fizzy blackcurrant note that reads as fruit and effervescence at once, the cassis component of the cocktail rendered in olfactory terms. Lemon brightens the top with a clean, citrus peel snap, while mint adds a cool aromatic lift that echoes the chill of a glass just poured.
The Kir Royal is a deceptively simple cocktail. Two ingredients, one effect. Lemon and mint do the work of effervescence at the top, lifting the fragrance with a sensation that mimics the tiny bubbles hitting your chest on the first sip. Blackcurrant anchors the heart with its tart fruit and the green leaf quality that makes the berry feel freshly picked rather than syrupy. Rose threads through the middle, softening the sharper edges and lending a soft, almost plush sweetness that feels like candied fruit rather than fresh flowers.
The evolution
