The beginning
Dulcet No. 06 is the sixth composition in KIDA KYO's portfolio of six fragrances, launched in 2025 under the creative direction of the house and composed by perfumer Pia Long. Where the brand's other titles lean into atmosphere and elemental states, including Ember, Dulcet leans into something warmer and more tactile. Pia Long's composition reads like a slow pour of milk into something darker, drawing on the aesthetic of Japanese niche perfumery, where subtlety, restraint, and the pleasure of small comforts carry weight. It is a gourmand designed by someone who understood that sugar, when held at the right temperature, becomes something closer to memory than confection.
What makes this composition structurally interesting is the tension between the gourmand creaminess and the resinous depth underneath. Dulcet No. 06 threads opoponax and benzoin beneath the custard and brown sugar, giving the cream a shadow it needs to feel grounded rather than synthetic. The yuzu and bergamot at the top do the unexpected work here. They cut through the lactonic warmth just enough to keep the opening from collapsing into straight dessert. Mimosa in the heart adds a powdery, almost floral softness that bridges the gap between milk and resin.
The evolution
The opening belongs to the yuzu and bergamot. They flash bright and citrus-clean against the milk, almost like the cold foam on top of a fresh drink. Then something softens. The boba tea accord blends into brown sugar and custard, and the fragrance shifts from cool to warm in a way that feels less like a phase change and more like a room warming up. Mimosa threads through the middle, powdery and quiet, doing very little except making the sweetness feel gentle rather than aggressive. As the hours pass, the sandalwood and opoponax settle underneath, and the whole composition reads warmer and more resinous. The vanilla doesn't shout. It rounds everything off. On skin, the fragrance tends toward a moderate four to six hours of wear before fading into a close, creamy drydown. The benzoin lingers longest, leaving something almost like warm wood behind.
