The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Man Card VIP launched in 2021 from The Dua Brand, arriving as part of the Inspired Expression line. The composition draws on the profile of Gucci Pour Homme II, a scent that built a following among those drawn to its woody spicy character. The Inspired Expression collection is where the house does this kind of translation work, taking recognizable scent architectures and rebuilding them so the experience stays within reach. No mystery about what the reference is. The real question is how the reconstruction wears, how it sits on a living pulse point, and whether the layers reveal themselves with patience. Bergamot, violet leaf, chili, black tea, tobacco, and olive tree form the architecture, with cinnamon and myrrh threading through the warmth. The structure is clear.
The interesting move here is the olive tree. It does something particular in the base: it adds a green, almost bitter stem note underneath the tobacco and myrrh that keeps the warmth from tipping into pure sweetness. Without it, the cinnamon and chili would dominate and the composition would collapse into spice candy. The olive tree anchors the drydown with a vegetal dryness, the same way a good bitter note in a cocktail stops it from going flat. Pair that with black tea in the heart, and you get a structure that feels like an aperitif rather than a dessert.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are almost polite. Bergamot opens with a clean citrus snap, violet leaf adds a cool green edge underneath. Then the chili arrives, not as heat but as a slow prickle that shifts the temperature of the whole composition. By 30 minutes, black tea and cinnamon have taken over the heart. The tea gives it a tannic, almost leathery quality. The cinnamon builds without going sweet. This is the phase that gets the compliments, the window where the scent is fully alive but hasn't settled yet. Around the two-hour mark, tobacco and myrrh begin to surface. The smoke here is dry, not sweet. Myrrh adds a resinous depth that reads almost ecclesiastical. The olive tree creeps in underneath, giving the base a green, slightly bitter stem quality that prevents the tobacco from going cloying. By hour four, the composition has quieted into a warm tobacco-skin drydown with myrrh still humming underneath.
Cultural impact
Man Card VIP sits in a specific niche: fragrances built for people who know what they want and don't need to be sold on it. The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line targets the enthusiast who recognizes the reference and wants the experience without hunting secondary markets or paying resale. Within that world, the composition earns its place by delivering a tobacco-tea-spice structure that holds together for a full evening. Wearers tend to be people who already own a few bottles, know their way around a note pyramid, and appreciate that accessibility doesn't have to mean compromise.
