The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
His Icon 20 launched in 2024, the work of perfumer Mahsam Raza, and it sits in The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection. The release belongs to a line known for offering compositions that share aesthetic territory with established fragrances, and His Icon 20 enters that conversation with a clear citrus-herbal-woody direction. Raza handles the materials with a measured hand. His Icon 20 opens with bright citrus, carries rosemary through the center as the herbal pivot, and grounds the composition in cedar and Haitian vetiver. The structure is linear enough to track but layered enough to reward attention. Nothing overworked, nothing underbuilt. The composition reads as deliberate from the first spray, and that sense of intention carries through every phase of the wear.
The composition earns its distinction through restraint. The opening keeps four notes at the top and lets them do real work. Petitgrain, the bitter green leaf of the bitter orange tree, bridges the yuzu and mandarin's sweetness with the rosemary's herbal sharpness without anyone noticing the seam. Pink pepper makes a quieter entrance, present enough to put a prickle under the citrus so the opening reads as aromatic rather than as a straightforward cologne. Then there's the matter of Haitian vetiver in the base.
The evolution
The opening belongs to yuzu and mandarin. They arrive bright, almost effervescent, with petitgrain threading through to keep the sweetness from tipping into juice. There's a clean green snap at the top, like the scent of peeling a leaf and pressing it between your fingers. Shortly after the first spray, pink pepper warms up underneath, and the rosemary steps forward. The rosemary here isn't a culinary rosemary, more the kind of herbal scent you'd find walking past a garden in warm weather. The citrus doesn't vanish during the transition; it just steps back and lets the herbs take over the next stretch. As the composition develops, the cedar becomes fully present, dry and architectural, with Haitian vetiver grounding it from underneath. The vetiver here is the mineral kind, not the muddy root kind, so the drydown stays clean even as the rosemary fades.
Cultural impact
His Icon 20 draws on Clive Christian's 20 Iconic Masculine as a reference point, and it lands in citrus-herbal-woody territory that will feel familiar to anyone who's spent time with the original. The rosemary-cedar-vetiver backbone keeps it grounded in classic masculine codes, while the yuzu and pink pepper keep it from smelling dated. The composition speaks to a particular kind of wearer, someone drawn to aromatic masculines that put citrus at the front and woods at the back without a long list of accords muddying the middle. That kind of clarity is what makes the citrus-herbal-woody structure endure as a category.
