The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Grace Of Power arrived in 2026 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, composed by perfumer Mahsam Raza. The name carries a cinematic weight, evoking the archetype of quiet authority, the kind that doesn't need to announce itself. It's an oriental woody built around a rum-and-amaretto accord, a composition that draws on the same indulgent territory that has long fascinated perfumery's more opulent corridors. The opening smacks of a freshly poured nightcap, with the dark sweetness of rum poured alongside the almond-nectar softness of amaretto, a combination that immediately sets a warm, interior mood. There's a gourmand inflection here, the kind that suggests dessert wine or a glass of something stirred slowly over a single ice cube.
What makes the composition worth attention is the tension between its opening and its base. The top notes are liqueur-sweet, almost dessert-like, with amaretto and rum leaning into gourmand territory while blackcurrant adds a dark fruit counterweight. Bergamot keeps it from tipping into cloying, lending a faint citrus tension that slices through the boozy sweetness just enough to keep the composition honest. But the base pulls hard toward resin and wood: labdanum, Siam benzoin, sandalwood, and vanilla wood create a dry, almost church-like gravity that contradicts the opening's playfulness.
The evolution
The opening arrives loud, dark rum and amaretto pouring out within the first ten minutes like a glass set down on a mahogany bar. Bergamot lifts the edges with a brief citrus brightness, while blackcurrant adds a bruised-fruit darkness underneath, a counterweight to all that liqueur sweetness. Within thirty minutes the sweeter notes start to recede, and amber steps forward alongside patchouli blossom, grounding the composition into something earthier and more textured. The patchouli here reads warm and slightly floral, not the sharp green-dirt version that often dominates masculine-leaning fragrances. The amber adds a molten, almost honeyed warmth that bridges the gourmand opening to the resinous base with surprising grace.
Cultural impact
Grace Of Power sits within The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, one of the brand's curated lineup offerings. It's a fragrance that wears with confidence, the kind of composition that holds its own in cooler weather without feeling overbuilt for indoor spaces. The oriental woody structure lends itself naturally to fall and winter, where the resinous base notes can unfurl against the chill rather than getting muffled by heat and humidity. On cooler skin, the labdanum and benzoin amplify, producing a richness that feels almost protective, a scent that wraps rather than radiates.
