What makes the composition work is the tension between its three centerpieces. Palo santo brings a dry, almost ecclesiastical smoke, clean like incense at the back of a chapel. Oud sits beneath it, resinous and slightly medicinal, the kind of note that rewrites the air around it. And then there's white sage, herbal but not green, more aromatic than cooling, pulling the whole thing into a register that feels ritualistic without trying to. Bergamot lifts the top, lavender smooths the edges, black pepper adds the crackle.

The evolution

The opening is all bergamot, bright and almost sharp, with white sage threading underneath like something herbal you'd find in a high-end apothecary. Black pepper shows up early, giving the citrus a dry crackle that keeps the composition from feeling too smooth. Once the top settles, the lavender makes its presence known, softening the aromatic edges and bridging the gap between the bright opening and what's coming. As the hours pass, the palo santo starts smoking faintly beneath everything, not aggressive, just present, adding depth without weight. The woods eventually take over as the lighter notes fade. Sandalwood goes creamy, the oud turns resinous and warm, and the whole composition shifts from crisp and aromatic to something deeper, almost meditative. Through the later stages of wear, the oud and sandalwood become skin-close, intimate, slightly sweet from the wood's natural warmth.
