The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Dua Mukhallat Series 006 carries the numerical tag 006 within The Dua Brand's catalog, a line of fragrances that takes its name from the traditional Arabic term for layered, multi-ingredient perfume compositions. The number places it as a numbered entry, one of several under the Mukhallat heading, each drawing from a shared palette of resins, woods, spices, florals, and gourmand accords. What sets 006 apart is the way those ingredients are weighted. Black orchid, magnolia, and champaca take up real estate in the formula alongside vanilla, whipped cream, and pomegranate, an unusual stacking that places dark, creamy florals next to soft, edible textures in the same bottle. The result reads more floral-gourmand than many of its catalog siblings.
The layering logic here rewards close attention. Aldehydes open the composition in a way that recalls vintage French perfumery, brightening the citrus and green notes and pulling them forward before the rest of the formula has time to settle. The mukhallat spine takes over from there: labdanum, patchouli, frankincense, and cedar holding the center while black orchid and champaca add a dense, almost shadowy depth. The whipped cream and vanilla aren't there to make it sweet.
The evolution
The opening is the loudest stretch. Aldehydes flash bright, carrying mandarin and green notes into the air with a fizzy, effervescent quality. Coriander, caraway, and nutmeg arrive right behind, pulling the temperature down to something spiced and slightly herbal. Black violet and pomegranate add a dark sweetness that isn't quite fruit, more like the memory of fruit, rounding out the top without tipping into anything overtly juicy. As the aldehydes fade, the composition settles into its middle register. Black orchid and champaca take over, dense and creamy in equal measure, while magnolia lifts the florals with a soft, almost lacy quality. Cinnamon threads warmth through everything, binding the florals to the resinous base that starts building early. Labdanum and patchouli ground the heart, and cedar keeps the whole arrangement from collapsing under its own weight.
Cultural impact
Series 006 sits in a distinctive position within the broader landscape of mukhallat-inspired fragrances. The aldehydic brightness at the top is unusual for compositions rooted in Arabian perfumery traditions, where openings tend to lean immediately into spice, citrus, or resin. Here, the aldehydes do the early work before the mukhallat character fully emerges, giving the fragrance a transitional quality between two different olfactory worlds. The dark florals, black orchid and champaca especially, give the composition a gravity that lighter mukhallat-style fragrances often lack.
