The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Another 46 Shades Of Santal joined The Dua Brand's catalog in 2025, part of the house's inspired-hybrid line. The fragrance lands squarely in the oriental-woody family, built around a modern skeleton of aroma-chemicals (Iso E Super, Ambroxan, ambrette) wrapped in creamier naturals like Australian sandalwood, papyrus, and leather. Cardamom, iris, and violet do the soft-spoken opening, giving the composition a powdered lift before the woods take over. The violet carries a cool, makeup-case sweetness that pairs naturally with the cool dryness of iris, while cardamom contributes an aromatic brightness without tipping into heat or pepper. Pear sits in the early minutes too, restrained and clean, more like sliced fruit on a plate than a syrupy pour.
What makes the structure work is the careful layering of distinct woody textures. The Australian sandalwood brings a creamy warmth, while papyrus and cedar push the texture toward something drier and more papery. Iso E Super, Ambroxan, and ambrette sit underneath as the invisible engine, the modern woody-musk framework that holds everything together. Amyl salicylate adds a green edge that keeps the composition from going too round, and the contrast between that flicker of green and the cream of the sandalwood is part of what gives the fragrance its tension.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are the softest part. Cardamom and violet powder the air, iris adds a cool, makeup-bag dryness, and a faint green flicker from amyl salicylate cuts through. There's a pear sweetness too, but it stays restrained, more like cold fruit in a bowl than juice on skin. Around the 30-minute mark the woods arrive. Australian sandalwood shows up creamy and full, papyrus brings a dry, bookish texture, and cedar adds a structural backbone. The leather is there but never takes the lead, more of a thread than a statement. By hour two, the composition has settled into its groove. Iso E Super, Ambroxan, and ambrette do what they do: amplify everything around them, add a velvety musk, and create that woody-amber haze that clings to skin and clothes. The violet and iris have mostly faded by this point, leaving behind only a faint powdery memory that gives the woods a soft halo.
Cultural impact
Another 46 Shades Of Santal sits in the same conversation as the Santal 33 archetype, the family of creamy, papery, leather-tinged sandalwood scents that has become a touchstone for unisex woody fragrance. The Dua Brand's 2025 interpretation leans into the modern aroma-chemical backbone (Iso E Super, Ambroxan, ambrette) that defines the contemporary iteration of this style. It takes the familiar formula of creamy sandalwood, dry papyrus, and soft leather, and rebuilds it through a hybrid lens that emphasizes the synthetic materials now standard in modern perfumery.
