The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Two icons. One bottle. The Dua Brand has built a reputation on reconstruction, taking beloved compositions and rebuilding them with a perfumer's microscope and a price tag that doesn't ask for a mortgage. Their 2022 release, 1 & Only Jazz Club, fuses that house philosophy with one of their boldest pairings yet: Maison Margiela's Jazz Club spliced with the 2008 original formulation of Dolce & Gabbana's The One. The premise is simple, even generous. Jazz Club brings the rum-soaked lounge atmosphere, the soft tobacco, the powdery iris, the cozy amber that defined a cozy Saturday-night-in. The One, in its earlier incarnation, brought a different kind of warmth: a sweeter amber, a richer tobacco leaf, a polished spice profile that wears close to the skin.
What makes this hybrid interesting isn't the novelty of combining two well-known profiles. It's the calibration. The Dua Brand's stated approach has always been to study the olfactory architecture of established fragrances and reconstruct them using ingredients that meet both safety standards and price constraints. With 1 & Only Jazz Club, that means a single composition that holds the relaxed, slightly boozy warmth of Jazz Club while borrowing the extended performance and smoother air of The One's vintage amber spine.
The evolution
The first spray is all swagger and gin, bright pink pepper, grapefruit, and neroli pulling fast, almost aggressively fresh, like walking into a dimly lit lounge after sun. The citrus hits quick, a sharp greeting that lingers just long enough to announce presence before it steps aside. Within ten minutes, the warm notes arrive. Java vetiver oil, cardamom, and coriander settle into the composition, and the rum makes its entrance, not as a note shot, but as a warm presence underneath everything. Tobacco leaf unfurls next, dry and leafy at first, then warmer as it meets the amber. Clary sage threads a clean herbal thread through the heart that prevents it from going too sweet or too heavy. This is where the composition earns its hybrid credentials. The Jazz Club DNA reads in the smoke and the sweetness. The One's vintage warmth reads in the amber backbone and the smooth tobacco.
Cultural impact
1 & Only Jazz Club sits in a specific niche: the fragrance enthusiast who already owns one or both of its source profiles and wants to see what happens when they're married. Wearers praise the composition's ability to capture the lounge-warmth of Jazz Club while borrowing the smoother, more extended performance of The One's vintage formulation. The hybrid approach, combining two well-documented profiles into a single bottle, appeals to collectors who treat fragrance as a study as much as a wardrobe.
