The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Snif wanted to turn the everyday snack into a dessert, so in 2022 they asked Patricia Choux to capture that cheeky idea in a bottle. Tart Deco was born from the notion that a simple cherry-laden treat could feel luxurious, a nod to the brand's playful, vegan-friendly ethos. The name evokes the bright, graphic quality of Art Deco poster art, and the juice itself leans into bold, saturated fruit: black cherry and raspberry as the loud opening act, with rose, jasmine, and mimosa softening the edges into something undeniably wearable. Patricia Choux built this fragrance on the idea that approachable ingredients, handled with care, can feel genuinely elevated.
The note selection for Tart Deco was built around contrast: bright, acidic fruit against soft florals, creamy sweetness against smoky grounding. Black cherry and raspberry anchor the opening in vivid tartness, then hand off to rose, jasmine, and mimosa, which provide a gentle, powdery transition. The choice of vanilla, vetiver, and birch for the drydown is what sets this apart from a standard fruity-floral. Vetiver keeps the earth present, birch adds a faint smoked-wood quality, and vanilla ensures the finale remains warm and inviting rather than austere. These three materials work tog ether to extend the fragrance's wearability and keep it interesting well beyond the first hour.
The evolution
Tart Deco opens with black cherry and raspberry, a duo that hits the skin with immediate tart-sweet intensity. The cherry brings a dark, slightly boozy depth while the raspberry adds sparkle and a fleeting juiciness. Within minutes, the florals begin to unfold: rose lends a classic powdery sweetness, jasmine grounds the composition with a creamy, indolic richness, and mimosa introduces a soft, waxy warmth that feels sunlit and feminine. As the heart settles, the fruit notes fade gracefully and vanilla emerges, wrapping the florals in gourmand comfort. Vetiver and birch arrive last, pulling the fragrance away from pure sweetness and toward something earthier and more complex. The birch, in particular, leaves a faint smoky trail that lingers long after the cherry and raspberry have gone quiet.
Cultural impact
Since its 2022 debut, Tart Deco has become a cultural touchstone for the millennial vegan‑friendly fragrance movement, embodying a shift toward playful yet responsibly sourced scents. Its cherry‑forward opening resonated on social media platforms, spawning countless user‑generated videos that paired the scent with retro 1950s aesthetics, a nod to the “Deco” era it references. The fragrance’s inclusive branding helped broaden the conversation around gender‑neutral perfume, influencing several indie houses to launch similar fruit‑centric, cruelty‑free lines. In niche circles, it sparked debates about the balance between gourmand sweetness and sophisticated woody undertones, prompting podcasts and blog posts that dissected its composition.
