The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Perpetual is Moresque's answer to the demand for scent that transcends season and trend. Part of the Art of Blend collection, this 2024 release leans into what the house does best, layering Eastern richness with Western restraint into something that feels simultaneously familiar and new. The brief was simple: create a fragrance that feels timeless, not tethered to any single moment or mood. The result is a fruity-gourmand composition that wears its sweetness without apology, grounded by warm woods and a clean Italian finish. It's called Perpetual for a reason, designed to accompany you through whatever the day holds, from first coffee to last light.
The real craft here is the balance. Cherry and almond in the top are textbook gourmand territory, that marzipan-like sweetness that makes you want to keep sniffing. But Moresque didn't stop there. The addition of ginger and orange keeps the opening from becoming saccharine, pricking the sweetness with just enough citrus-brightness and clean spice. In the heart, patchouli does the invisible work of anchoring the florals, preventing them from floating into pure fantasy. And the base, brown sugar, tonka bean, vanilla, amber, sandalwood, is where the fragrance earns its name. These materials don't evaporate; they linger, evolve, settle into skin like a second layer.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, cherry and almond arrive together, creating that marzipan-adjacent sweetness within seconds of spraying. Orange appears in the first five minutes, lifting the sweetness just enough to keep it from feeling heavy-handed. Ginger follows, adding warmth that feels clean rather than spicy. By the 15-minute mark, the florals begin their takeover: iris first, powdery and soft, then rose and jasmine layering on top. The patchouli becomes noticeable around the 30-minute mark, giving the florals something to stand on. The drydown is where Perpetual earns its keep. Brown sugar and tonka bean emerge as the dominant players, sweetness that has deepened and darkened into something more adult. Vanilla and sandalwood provide the warmth, amber the glow. On fabric, this fragrance lasts through multiple wearings, you'll still catch traces in a jacket worn three days later. On skin, expect 8-10 hours with a strong presence for the first four, settling to intimate projection afterward.
Cultural impact
Perpetual occupies a crowded space in niche fragrance, the sweet, fruity-gourmandunisex category, but it stands out through sheer longevity and wearability. Wearers consistently describe it as the scent that gets questions, not because it shouts, but because it stays. The comparison to Tom Ford's Lost Cherry in community discussions suggests a similar appeal: sweet without being juvenile, sophisticated without being austere. This is a fragrance for someone who wants to smell good and know they'll still smell good hours later.
