The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Pepe & Menta arrived in 2016 as Sinfonia di Note's aromatic postcard from a sun‑drenched Mediterranean promenade. The name, a playful nod to pepper and mint, captures the market‑stall energy the house loves to translate into scent. Drawing on the brand's habit of turning travel memories into bottled atmosphere, this fragrance distils the sensory chaos of coastal stalls: the crack of pepper, the cool sweep of mint, and the sweet bloom of neroli in the morning air. It is an olfactory snapshot, not a statement perfume.
The philosophy here is contrast. Pepper and mint push in opposite directions, and the composer's job is to make them argue productively. Neroli acts as the mediator, its citrus bitterness pulling the spice and herb into balance. The heart relies on rose and jasmine, which feel traditional on paper but gain freshness from heliotrope's almond note. The base keeps things restrained, using rosewood and cashmere wood for smoothness rather than powe.
The evolution
The scent journey opens with a bold declaration: black pepper's dry heat meeting mint's cooling bite. Neroli brightens the transition while artemisia adds a quiet herbaceous sophistication. By the second phase, rose and jasmine have taken over, painting the heart in lush floral tones softened by heliotrope's gentle powder. The fragrance finally settles into a warm, woody drydown where rosewood and cashmere wood blend seamlessly, and vetiver adds a final whisper of earthy depth that lingers well into the evening.
Cultural impact
Pepe & Menta captures a moment of Mediterranean travel, echoing the bustling markets where pepper and mint intertwine with floral aromas. Since its 2016 launch, it has resonated with younger urban professionals seeking a scent that feels both adventurous and approachable. The blend’s balance of spice and herb evokes the sensory memory of strolling through narrow alleys, tasting local cuisine, and feeling the sea breeze. Its moderate sillage makes it suitable for close‑quarter environments, allowing wearers to share a subtle cultural hint without overwhelming.
