Why it exists.
The beginning
Source of Life Man arrived in 2023 from Italian house Replay, part of the Source of Life lineup the brand made with Orpur-grade ingredients. Perfumer Guillaume Flavigny composed the formula by pulling from three distinct regions: Philippine elemi for the resinous lift, Indian cardamom and Laotian cinnamon for the warm aromatic core, and Provençal lavender to keep the whole thing from tipping too sweet. It's a deliberate cross-pollination of materials, chosen for clarity and character, then blended with intention. The elemi brings a peppery, almost incense-like crackle that most lavender-and-cinnamon compositions tend to skip entirely. Up top, mint cuts through cool and green, while balsam fir resin adds a quiet sap-sweetness underneath.
What gives this composition its particular character is the ingredient tier. The cardamom, lavender, and cinnamon are all Orpur grades, the designation Givaudan reserves for materials distilled and purified to a higher standard than commodity essential oils. That distinction matters in the bottle because Orpur grades tend to carry sharper individual definition and longer aromatic tails, which means the Provençal lavender here smells less like a generic herbal accent and more like the plant itself, picked at peak and distilled with care.
The evolution
The opening belongs to mint and elemi, sharp and green with a peppery snap that reads almost like cold toothpaste on warm skin. The mint cuts first, bracing and almost clinical, then the elemi cracks through it with that peppery, incense-leaning brightness that gives the whole top a sense of movement. The opening stays cool overall, a brisk green introduction that announces itself without shouting. Once the mint and elemi settle, the spices start to move into the foreground. Cardamom arrives with a slight mentholated edge, almost as if the green of the opening has been folded into something warmer, and cinnamon rolls in underneath with a soft, dry warmth that feels more like banked coals than active fire.

Source of Life Man sits firmly in the comfortable-masculine space rather than the statement space, a woody-spice composition that reads composed and modern rather than loud or trend-driven. It leans into the aromatic clarity of its materials, with the lavender-and-spice skeleton carrying the wear rather than any single note demanding attention.
