Cadiz

What makes Cadiz unusual is the orris. Powdery, iris-dusty, technically demanding to work with, it threads through the entire composition rather than appearing only in the heart. The rose and vanilla exist alongside the orris, their relationship creating a cohesive whole. The tarragon adds a herbal quality that introduces a slightly bitter dimension to the composition. This interplay between sweet and bitter creates an interesting dynamic. The overall effect is one of warmth balanced by restraint, elements that coexist within the same fragrance rather than appearing sequentially.

The evolution

The first twenty minutes announce themselves. Cumin and cardamom arrive together, the cardamom sharp and almost green, the cumin warm and deeply aromatic. It reads like a spice stall at sunset. The cumin continues to be present as the composition develops, allowing other notes to take their place alongside it. The orris adds its powdery character quietly, building underneath. The drydown settles into something creamy and grounded, vanilla and tonka creating smoothness, sandalwood adding wood and warmth, amber contributing depth. The patchouli adds an earthy complexity that provides a lingering finish. The fragrance begins with a strong statement and then settles into something more intimate as time passes.
