The beginning
Mediterranean Memories arrived in 2014 from Ramón Monegal, a Barcelona-based perfumer working in the city he's always called home. The composition reads like a postcard from the Catalan coast. Tunisian orange blossom opens the door, neroli keeps the air moving, and Ceylon cinnamon threads warmth through the middle. It isn't trying to recreate a specific place. It's the emotional temperature of one. Monegal built the house on the principle that every fragrance is rooted in a situation personally experienced by the perfumer, and here, the situation feels like a late afternoon with nowhere to be. Tunisian orange blossom lends a honeyed, almost edible sweetness to the opening, while neroli adds a green, slightly bitter brightness that keeps things from tipping into the syrupy.

Mediterranean Memories was at one point available exclusively at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Barcelona, a placement that tied the scent to a specific setting rather than a broad retail rollout. It reads as a quiet, personal statement from Monegal rather than a commercial crowd-pleaser, and the orange-blossom-plus-cinnamon pairing marks it as a perfumer's choice rather than a safe one. The decision to release through a single hotel location suggests Monegal wanted the fragrance encountered on its own terms, surrounded by the architecture, light, and pace of the Mediterranean rather than competing for attention on a crowded shelf.
