The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Rickshaw Rhythms takes its name from the experience of riding a rickshaw along India's coastal roads, where warm breezes carry the scent of the ocean alongside familiar urban notes. Perfumer Kajal Gujar translated this sensation into an opening of coconut water and fig, creating an immediate sense of tropical freshness. The heart of the fragrance introduces champaca and marine notes, blending floral richness with an airy quality that feels expansive. As the composition settles, suede and vetiver arrive to ground the scent, bringing texture and depth that keep the fragrance intimate and close to the skin.
The structure of Rickshaw Rhythms sets it apart from more straightforward aquatic fragrances. The opening combines coconut water and fig to create something tropical and lively, a bright entrance that feels both refreshing and alive. As the fragrance develops, champaca enters the heart and shifts the character toward something with more presence, the flower's waxy warmth adding richness without heaviness. The composition then moves into its most distinctive phase with the drydown.
The evolution
The coconut water and fig open bright and sweet, that distinctive tropical freshness arriving on skin like stepping into shade after sun exposure. As the composition develops, champaca and marine notes take over, the gardenia-adjacent warmth of the flower meeting something that suggests ocean wind. The fragrance remains fresh but now carries depth. Then the base arrives, and this is where Rickshaw Rhythms earns its name. Suede comes through first, not sharp leather but something worn and soft, warmed by contact with skin. Vetiver follows with a dry mineral finish that extends the presence, the earthiness of the vetiver keeping the scent close and intimate. The suede lingers while vetiver stays near, skin-warm, into the later hours.
Cultural impact
The 2025 launch of Rickshaw Rhythms brings something specific to the fragrance landscape. The scent's identity, rooted in modern South Asian sensibilities and worn close to the body, offers a distinct alternative to more generic aquatic fragrances. Rickshaw Rhythms has drawn attention for the way its drydown diverges from its fresh opening, moving from tropical brightness into something mineral and warm that endures on the skin. The fragrance captures a shift in character that feels intentional and earned rather than accidental.
