The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sheiduna draws its name and visual language from the sweeping golden sand dunes of the desert, those vast, soft curves that shift from pale gold to deep amber in the final light of day. It was composed in 2016 by perfumer Cécile Zarokian as part of Puredistance's Magnificent XII Collection, a series designed to represent the house's most complete olfactory statements. Where many desert-inspired fragrances reach for heat and intensity alone, Sheiduna was built on a different tension: the warmth of tangerine and aldehydes lifting an opening that feels sunlit and airy, before Bulgarian rose arrives, not as a shock, but as something already implied, like a memory of warmth rather than warmth itself.
What makes Sheiduna structurally unusual is how its materials resist the obvious hierarchy. The citrus top notes, tangerine, lemon, don't simply burn off and vanish. Aldehydes give them a crystalline quality, a slight lift that keeps the opening feeling luminous rather than juicy. Bulgarian rose anchors the heart alongside amberwood and clove, a combination that gives the fragrance its character: warm, slightly spiced, but never heavy in the traditional Oriental sense. The base brings benzoin, frankincense, myrrh, and vanilla pod together, a resinous architecture that supports everything above it, keeping the drydown intimate rather than theatrical.
The evolution
Sheiduna opens bright. Tangerine and lemon collide with aldehydes, creating a citrus sparkle that feels almost effervescent, the top notes don't sit quietly, they announce. Blackcurrant adds a tart undertone that prevents the citrus from going sweet. Within the first twenty minutes, the aldehydes begin to recede and Bulgarian rose moves forward, arriving not with fanfare but with quiet authority. The heart phase holds for hours, clove and geranium weave through the rose, while amberwood provides a woody warmth that keeps everything grounded. Vetiver and patchouli introduce earthiness that marks a turning point in the drydown, where the composition becomes less polished, more honest. The base is where Sheiduna earns its extrait designation. Benzoin and myrrh build a warm, powdery embrace, while frankincense adds a smoky, resinous depth that cuts through the sweetness.
Cultural impact
Sheiduna occupies a distinct place in the niche fragrance landscape. The aldehydes and Bulgarian rose form the composition's backbone, with aldehydes lending a powdery, vintage sophistication that elevates the rose into something more nuanced than a standard floral heart. Strong sillage carries the scent across a room, while the warm amber-resinous drydown rewards close attention as the fragrance develops on the skin. The blend creates a statement piece built on depth rather than volume, appealing to wearers who seek complexity over convention.
