A house, in its own words
Puredistance was founded in 2002 by Jan Ewoud Vos in the Netherlands. The name itself carries deliberate meaning, with Vos explaining that he conceived it with a global essence in mind, reflecting both purity and a sense of distance that suggests contemplation and focus. From the earliest stages, Vos envisioned creating a small perfume house dedicated to true exclusivity rather than volume production. The brand launched its first perfume in 2007, marking the beginning of its curated approach to fragrance creation. Unlike houses that expand rapidly, Puredistance has maintained a deliberate pace, releasing new compositions at measured intervals. The brand has collaborated with several distinguished perfumers over the years, including Annie Buzantian, Antoine Lie, and Cécile Zarokian. In recent years, Vos has increasingly partnered directly with perfumers on new releases, as evidenced by the Sheiduna fragrance created in collaboration with Cécile Zarokian. The house has consistently emphasized hand-finished production and personal oversight, with Vos signing each perfume by hand, a practice that reinforces the intimate nature of the brand's operations.
Puredistance operates on a philosophy of exclusivity and intentional restraint. The house positions itself as offering something beyond mainstream fragrance production, focusing on the uniqueness of pure parfum extraits rather than eau de parfum浓度的产品. Vos has stated that the house only sells pure extrait de parfums, distinguishing its offerings from conventional fragrance market categories. The brand embraces a small-house model where every fragrance receives individual attention from the founder. Rather than chasing trends or seasonal releases, Puredistance develops compositions at its own pace, ensuring each fragrance meets the house's standards before introduction. The philosophy extends to how the brand presents itself, maintaining a measured presence that aligns with its exclusivity positioning. This approach reflects a belief that true luxury lies in curation and restraint rather than constant innovation and market saturation.
