The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Portelier Parfum's 2025 release Nesso arrived from the brand's French atelier, where perfumer Koray Sevinç set out to bottle a tranquil moment inspired by wisteria vines and grape leaves. The brief from the house called for a scent that felt both familiar and new, echoing the quiet storytelling the house has become known for. Sevinç chose to build the opening around champagne and orange for their immediate, celebratory brightness, then added ginger as a bridge to warmer territory, knowing the heart would demand space to breathe. The choice of three white florals for the heart was deliberate: tuberose as the dominant voice, magnolia and jasmine in supporting roles to deepen and soften the composition.
The note selection reflects a philosophy of contrast and balance. The effervescent quality of champagne against the warmth of ginger creates an opening that feels both sparkling and grounded. The heart's trio of white florals was chosen not for their individual prominence but for how they work together as a cohesive unit, each one softening and enhancing the others. The drydown's cedarwood, honey and patchouli were selected to provide a warm, lasting base that would make the fragrance feel complete rather than simply fading away. Together, these notes form a scent that moves from bright immediacy to lush warmth, then settles into a quiet, enduring presence.
The evolution
Nesso opens with a pop of champagne and orange that feels like light catching glass, with ginger waiting in the wings to add a quiet spark of warmth. Within minutes, the heart begins to unfold, and tuberose takes center stage with its creamy, almost narcotic richness. Magnolia adds a delicate citrus blossom quality while jasmine brings a fuller, more enveloping floral presence. Together these three create a heart that feels abundant without being overwhelming. As the hours pass, the drydown emerges with cedarwood offering a clean, dry woody presence that provides structure. Honey introduces a soft sweetness that lingers near the skin, while patchouli grounds everything with its earthy, slightly resinous character. The transition from heart to drydown feels natural rather than abrupt, the florals gently making way for the warmer, more grounded base.
Cultural impact
Since its 2025 debut, Nesso has quietly gathered a following among those who favor understated elegance over flash. Wearers often note its ability to transition from daytime freshness to evening warmth, making it a versatile choice for Mediterranean‑inspired wardrobes. The fragrance’s balanced blend of sparkling top notes and earthy base has been praised in niche forums for its subtle complexity, positioning it as a modest cult favorite within Portelier’s small but dedicated community.
