The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Heartless arrived in 2022 as part of Poesie's Magic in the Wind collection, a series of fragrances built around enchanted places and the people drifting through them. The official description reads like a storybook fragment. The fragrance is inspired by an enchanted, whimsical setting where soap bubbles, hyacinth, and Egyptian musk surround someone like a magical aura. Iridescent bubbles float through the composition. Hyacinth rests on warm skin. Crushed green leaves add their bitter edge. Clean Egyptian musk grounds the whole thing in something tactile and alive. The scent reads as a spell cast on yourself, a ritual to make you feel beautiful. Clean as a ritual, strange as a fairytale.
What makes Heartless worth slowing down for is the Egyptian musk anchoring the composition. Egyptian musk sits closer to actual skin than the more common white musks do. It's warmer, with that slightly mineral edge that keeps it from going sterile or reading as the usual cotton-cloud clean. The hyacinth contributes its own green-floral sting, that almost cartoonish brightness of soap accord pushes the whole thing toward freshly washed skin, and the result is something that reads as clean without surrendering its own opinion. The green leaves aren't decorative either.
The evolution
The opening is loud-clean, almost aggressive about it. Soap accord and green leaves hit first, that fresh-bar sensation amplified by hyacinth's sharp green-floral bite. For the first stretch of wear it smells like a bathroom that just got cleaned by someone who cares. Then something shifts. The green leaves recede, the hyacinth softens from sharp to sweet, and Egyptian musk rises underneath like warm skin finally getting air. The soapy impression doesn't disappear so much as melt into the musk, which gives the whole thing a wet, just-stepped-out-of-the-bath quality. As the hours wear on, the composition settles into a close, almost powdery musk with a green floral echo. The soapy topnotes give way to the warmth of the musk base, and what's left hovering above the skin feels more like clean laundry that was folded with intention than anything overtly perfumey.
Cultural impact
Heartless occupies a particular corner of the indie fragrance world, the clean-musk space where indie houses have been pushing back against the more clinical naturals and the mass-market cotton-cloud scents that dominate the clean category. Wearers tend to describe it as something like a 'femme fatale washing the crime off her skin,' a clean that carries narrative weight. Some have drawn comparisons to Maison Margiela's Bubble Bath, with at least one reviewer pointing toward Heartless as a more elevated, better executed take on that soapy idea.
