The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ostens launched in 2018 with a proposition: what if perfume didn't have to be complicated to be extraordinary? The Impression series, fragrance oils each celebrating a single raw material, was the answer. Impression Rose Oil Isparta was one of them, named for Isparta, the Turkish province recognized in the fragrance industry for its rose cultivation. Dominique Ropion built the composition around that Turkish damask rose, treating it not as a supporting note but as the entire point. The brand's philosophy moved away from predetermined accords, presenting instead a singular aromatic material for those who'd rather compose their own experience than accept someone else's.
The decision to feature rose from Isparta specifically wasn't accidental. That region produces a distinctly rich damask rose, the kind that carries its own weight without needing structural support. Ropion paired it with blackcurrant bud absolute, an ingredient that adds a jammy, wine-like depth without sweetness. The opening spices, cardamom, pink pepper CO2, coriander, rosemary, serve a single purpose: they lift the rose, keep it from falling flat on skin, and add dimension without becoming the story themselves. What makes this composition unusual is how little it asks of you.
The evolution
The opening announces itself quickly, cardamom and pink pepper create an immediate spark, the kind of clean heat that wakes everything up. Shortly after, the rosemary fades and the Turkish rose takes over, dense and almost tactile. The blackcurrant bud arrives next, adding a wine-like darkness that deepens the floral without sweetening it. This middle phase represents the heart of the fragrance, where the orange blossom absolute adds a fleeting nuance before dissolving entirely. Then comes the base: patchouli and labdanum grounding the rose, cashmeran softening everything into something powdery and close. On fabric, the rose lingers into the next day. On skin, the fragrance lasts for several hours before it quietly fades.
Cultural impact
Ostens occupies a particular space in the fragrance world. Where many houses build narratives, Ostens builds materials. Impression Rose Oil Isparta stands among the notable rose fragrances, rose done with a clear point of view.
