The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Rose 96' carries the year right there in the name, a single rose from Orchid Lane that doesn't ask for permission. No powder. No demure softness. Just fruit bursting open, petals getting crushed underfoot, smoke filling the room before anyone notices the leather chair. Released in 2025 and composed as an extrait, the concentration builds for intimacy, warmth, and the kind of slow development that rewards patience. Rose 96' is the loudest one in the set, a defiant composition dressed in modern materials, pitched at the wearer who wants their florals to mean something.
What happens around the rose is where the composition finds its character. Black cherry and raspberry bring a sticky, almost confectionery richness to the top, but pink pepper snaps things awake before the fruit can settle into something too pretty. Then the saffron arrives, dry, leathery, slightly bitter, dragging the rose away from any romantic cliché. By the time the base lands, you're wearing coffee grounds and worn suede, not a bouquet.
The evolution
The first spray announces itself without hesitation. Black cherry and raspberry hit loud, almost jammy, riding pink pepper's sharp little buzz. Watermelon rind adds a green, watery edge that keeps the sweetness from going syrupy. Give it twenty minutes and the rose finally arrives, but it doesn't arrive alone. Saffron threads through the petals, turning what could have been a straightforward floral heart into something smokier and drier. Blackcurrant deepens the fruit into something darker, closer to jam that's been left on the counter too long. The middle phase is where Rose 96' settles into its skin, rich, dense, almost velvety. Then the leather arrives, and everything shifts. Patchouli grounds the composition in earth and shadow. Coffee notes curl through the drydown, not a latte, more like the grounds left at the bottom of a cold cup.
Cultural impact
Rose 96' treats the rose note less as a romantic gesture and more as an ingredient to be stained, smudged, and darkened. The black cherry and watermelon rind accord sets the tone, pushing rose into smoky, fruit-stained territory from the opening spray onward. Coffee and leather in the base pull the composition further from traditional florals, layering shadow and warmth underneath what could have been a simple petal.
