The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
OM Parfum's Berlin studio gave rise to Aftermath as its first extrait, drawn from Aichi Liu's memories of humid, rain-soaked islands. The perfumer sought to bottle the tension between tropical downpour and blazing sun, building the fragrance entirely from its heart rather than a traditional opening. The result reflects that immediacy, placing Rain Notes and Solar Notes side by side from the first moment.
By omitting a traditional opening, Aftermath forces the wearer to engage immediately with its core identity. The Rain Notes exist in tension with Solar Notes, creating a duality of freshness and warmth. Mitti Attar grounds the experience with its familiar petrichor, while Cypress and Green Grass offer the crispness of an open field after rain. The fragrance asks you to inhabit that specific moment, not before or after, but exactly when rain gives way to sun.
The evolution
The scent begins without delay, the heart arriving fully formed. Rain Notes and Air Accord create an atmospheric opening that feels like the moment clouds break. Solar Notes introduce warmth, while Green Grass and Cypress add green, botanical clarity. Earthy Notes and Mitti Attar provide a grounded quality, capturing the smell of wet earth and sun-heated ground after rain. This layered heart persists for hours, softening gradually without a marked drydown.
Cultural impact
Aftermath arrived at a moment when niche perfumery was embracing more naturalistic narratives, and its rain‑laden composition resonated with a generation seeking authenticity in scent. The green‑earthy profile echoed the growing interest in sustainability, reminding wearers of the quiet power of a forest after a storm. Its release sparked discussions on how modern fragrances can capture atmospheric moments without relying on synthetic overload, influencing several subsequent releases that prioritized transparent, aqueous accords. Collectors and casual fans alike noted its ability to evoke personal memories of damp mornings, reinforcing the cultural shift toward scent as a conduit for environmental reflection.
