The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Prin Lomros designed Comme Un Carrousel around a memory of a beach festival in Nice, France, where the brand describes the scene plainly: drinks, smoke, love and carousel. But Lomros didn't just bottle a place. He bottled the sensation of something spinning in your head, the way a song or a person can circle back endlessly through a warm night. "Summer of love" appears in the brand's own note, and that's the target, not nostalgia for a specific era, but that feeling when the light stays golden and nothing needs to end. The name translates from French as "Like a Carousel", and the carousel is the metaphor for a thought you can't put down.
What makes this composition work as a unit rather than a list is how the cola note doesn't just open, it threads through. The warm spices (cinnamon, ginger, clove) build a scaffolding that holds the sweetness without letting it collapse into syrup. Rum and red wine bring an acidic counterpoint that keeps the honey and vanilla from reading as flat. Tobacco grounds everything at the base, giving the drydown a depth that feels earned rather than added. Lomros has described his process as "alchemy", mixing powerful notes from across the fragrance spectrum into something that functions as a whole. Here, that means each material is present but transformed by what surrounds it.
The evolution
The opening hits like a glass of cola with citrus, effervescent, sweet, with a pop of orange blossom and ginger at the edges. The carbonation fades within minutes as honey and vanilla arrive, shifting the impression from novelty toward comfort. The heart deepens as rum and tobacco emerge, supported by clove and a whisper of red wine. The cola note doesn't disappear, it evolves, becoming warmer and more blended as the spices take over. By the drydown, tobacco is the dominant note, not smoky, but honeyed, like a fine pipe tobacco in a wooden room. Vanilla, myrrh and amber form a smooth, close-to-skin base. The coconut appears here, adding a tropical softness at the edges. Lasts 6-8 hours on most skin types, with sillage that stays moderate throughout, present enough to intrigue, never overwhelming.
Cultural impact
Comme Un Carrousel arrived during a period when indie perfumers were challenging mainstream fragrance conventions. Its bold Coca-Cola note, combined with warm boozy elements, represented a shift toward narrative-driven scents that prioritize storytelling over traditional luxury positioning. The fragrance captures the playful spirit of festival culture, blending familiar comfort with unexpected sophistication. Its cola and orange blossom blend creates an accessible yet distinctive character, appealing to fragrance enthusiasts seeking unconventional aromatic experiences. This scent marks a notable moment in the evolution of niche perfumery, highlighting the growing demand for personal, story-driven fragrance choices.
