Gravitas Essentia arrived in 2023 as the sequel to Naughton & Wilson's debut release, Gravitas. Where the first effort leaned into spicier territory, Essentia softens the edges, replacing some of that warmth with a bit of minty tingly freshness while keeping the classical fougère framework intact. The fragrance was composed by perfumer John Stephen, and the brief reads like an intentional refinement rather than a reinvention. Bergamot and mandarin lift the opening, lavender and mint cool it down, and the whole thing settles into the herbal, mossy register the house seems drawn to. Independent and British in origin, Essentia carries the weight of a release that knows exactly what it wants to be and doesn't apologize for the parts of perfumery history it chooses to honor.
