The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Compassionate Sandal emerged from My Perfumes, whose release year and perfumer remain undocumented, so the composition itself tells the story. The name points toward sandalwood, but this isn't a quiet, single-ingredient study. Passion fruit brings brightness, saffron adds metallic spice, and jasmine gives the center a clean floral lift before patchouli, cedar, and vetiver pull the composition into warmer, earthier territory. The fragrance opens with a lively contrast between juicy fruit and dry spice, then settles into a layered combination of smooth sandalwood, earthy patchouli, dry cedar, and vetiver. Jasmine keeps the center polished, while the fruit gradually softens into the woody base. Overall, it presents a modern take on sandalwood, balancing freshness with dense, grounding notes.
The unusual part is the contrast. Passion fruit and saffron can suggest brightness and heat, while patchouli, sandalwood, cedar, and vetiver usually signal weight and grounding. Here, those materials meet without becoming inseparable. The fruit gives the opening a juicy edge, saffron keeps it sharp, and jasmine adds an elegant white-floral thread. Woods and earth then take over, leaving a composition that feels polished but never too neat.
The evolution
At first, the fragrance presents its contrast openly: juicy passion fruit cuts through saffron's dry, metallic spice, creating an opening that feels tropical and energized. Jasmine then brings a clean white floral lift while woody notes and patchouli begin drawing everything downward. As the hours pass, cedar and vetiver tighten the composition, giving it a drier, more grounded edge, while sandalwood keeps the center smooth and generous. The fruit gradually recedes, but patchouli and sandalwood remain the lasting partnership. By the drydown, the scent reads as warm timber, earthy patchouli, and the faint memory of spice. The opening brightness gives way to a close, rounded texture, with jasmine sitting lightly over the wood and the saffron becoming a subtle trace rather than a dominant note.
Cultural impact
Compassionate Sandal can be explored through its central pairing of fruit, floral brightness, and dense woods. Passion fruit and saffron make the opening vivid and slightly metallic, while jasmine adds a clean lift before sandalwood, patchouli, cedar, and vetiver create a warmer, earthier center. As the scent settles, the fruit recedes and the composition becomes more tactile, balancing smooth timber with dry spice and a subtle floral trace. It offers an inviting way to experience sandalwood through changing layers rather than as a single, static note.
