The Story
Why it exists.
In 2018 Serge Majoullier set out to capture the sun-drenched fig groves of the Venetian lagoon’s outskirts, translating the region’s ripe harvest into a single-note portrait. Monotheme Venezia, founded in Italy in 2000, had already built a reputation for isolating one botanical element, letting it shine without interference. Majoullier expanded that philosophy here, letting fig command the narrative while the opening green notes and litchi set the scene of a damp, leafy morning and the drydown musk ensured the scent would linger like a memory of warm skin and open air.

The Beginning
In 2018 Serge Majoullier set out to capture the sun-drenched fig groves of the Venetian lagoon’s outskirts, translating the region’s ripe harvest into a single-note portrait. Monotheme Venezia, founded in Italy in 2000, had already built a reputation for isolating one botanical element, letting it shine without interference. Majoullier expanded that philosophy here, letting fig command the narrative while the opening green notes and litchi set the scene of a damp, leafy morning and the drydown musk ensured the scent would linger like a memory of warm skin and open air.
The composition leans on bright green notes that echo fresh foliage, while lychee adds an exotic, juicy sparkle that amplifies the fruit’s natural sweetness. Fig, the heart of the fragrance, provides a fleshy, almost edible richness, softened by jasmine’s delicate floral veil. A clean musk base anchors the sweetness, ensuring the scent remains light enough for everyday wear yet distinct enough to linger in memory.
The Evolution
The journey begins with an immediate green note that recalls crushed fig leaves, soon joined by the bright, almost effervescent sweetness of litchi. Within minutes the composition pivots, the fig fruit itself emerging with creamy, milk-like richness while jasmine introduces a quiet floral echo. As time passes, the green and fruity facets soften and the musk takes hold, settling the fragrance into something Intimate and lasting rather than loud or transient.
Cultural Impact
Since its 2018 debut, Red Fig has been noted for its straightforward fig focus, often compared to Diptyque’s Philosykos (2010) for its green fruit vibe. Wearers appreciate its light, summer‑ready aura, describing it as the scent of a Mediterranean market stall. Its simplicity appeals to those who prefer a single, well‑defined fruit note over complex blends, making it a go‑to for casual daytime wear.
The House
Italy · Est. 2000
Monotheme Venezia creates single‑note fragrances that echo the quiet elegance of its lagoon home. Each scent isolates one natural ingredient—cacao, coffee, iris, or tea—and lets it unfold without distraction. The brand ships its bottles from a workshop near the Rialto, where artisans blend, age, and seal the perfume in clear glass that shows the colour of the oil. By focusing on purity rather than complexity, Monotheme offers a tactile way to experience a single aroma as a standalone story.

A breezy acoustic guitar melody with soft vocal harmonies mirrors the fragrance’s fresh green opening and gentle fig sweetness, while a subtle bass line reflects the grounding musk.
