Why it exists.
The beginning
Figurative arrived in 2022 from Mine. Perfumery, placed inside the brand's Hidden Fruits collection, a series organized around specific fruit themes. Fig was the central note in this release, and the composition treats the ingredient in a way that emphasizes its cooler, leafier character rather than overripe or cooked sweetness. The fragrance reads like fig before it ripens on the branch, the green, sappy, slightly bitter side of the plant that most compositions tend to skip over. There's an emphasis on the stem, the leaf, the vegetal snap of fresh-picked fruit. Mine. positions the scent as an exploration of fig's earlier stage of life, where the fruit is still part of a living system rather than something harvested and softened.
The orris root in the heart is where the composition really finds its character. Orris contributes a powdery, cool, almost makeupy texture that softens everything around it, pulling the fig into a gentler register. Violet reinforces this, adding a quiet sweetness that gives the fig a softer edge, more impressionistic than literal. Together these two notes keep the composition feeling shaded and cool, more about fig as a sensory impression than fig as actual fruit.
The evolution
The spray opens with a cool snap of bergamot, bright and lifted, followed by the pink pepper and cardamom, which flicker in just underneath, adding warmth without heaviness. The fig soon makes its presence felt, and it shows up unmistakably green. The orris and violet fold in below, softening the opening and pulling it toward something quieter, more hushed. As the composition settles, the woods and vanilla begin to take over. The sandalwood has a creamy, understated quality rather than anything smoky or aggressive, and the vanilla keeps things dry rather than sweet. The whole thing sits close to skin for hours, settling into a green-woody hum that feels more intimate the longer it's worn. Eventually the powder and woods mingle, leaving a soft trail that gets quieter and more personal as the hours pass, the kind of scent that becomes part of the wearer's own warmth.

Figurative occupies a particular place in the world of fig-forward fragrances by pulling the ingredient into softer, cooler, more powdery territory than many of its peers. The composition sits closer to the feeling of a green garden than to anything sun-baked, and that positioning gives it appeal for wearers drawn to fig without the more familiar tropical or sun-warmed treatments.
