The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Memoize London treats fragrance as a private memoir, not a public statement. Anima translates that philosophy into something luminous, a fragrance about spirit, courage, and the warmth you build when you uplift others through your own acts. Cherry opens the story, but it isn't the point. The heart, violet's quiet uplift, ylang-ylang's intoxicating richness, jasmine's full bloom, that's where the intention lives. Oud and sandalwood anchor everything, reminding you that warmth without depth is just sweetness, and sweetness without foundation doesn't last.
Cherry is one of perfumery's trickier materials, it can smell confectionery, medicinal, or bright depending on what surrounds it. Here, the choice to lead with tart cherry then surrender the stage to powdery violet and warm yellow florals is deliberate. It sets expectation (fruity, accessible) then immediately complicates it (floral, intimate, slightly intoxicating). The oud base arrives not as a statement but as a foundation, lending the sweetness something resinous to lean against. The result: a fragrance that feels coherent rather than conflicted, despite holding tart and powdery in the same breath.
The evolution
Cherry arrives first, bright, almost effervescent, there and then softening into the florals within minutes. No grand entrance. Just a quick flash of sweetness before violet takes over, powdery and warm, already introducing the texture that carries the heart. The middle phase belongs to jasmine and ylang-ylang: lush, white, blooming. The oud shows itself here too, dark and resinous beneath the florals, keeping them from becoming purely sweet. By the drydown, sandalwood joins oud as a warm, woody base. The florals don't disappear, they fade into powder, mingling with the wood rather than leaving. What lingers is intimate and close: the smell of something warm near the skin, lasting well into the evening. On fabric, it holds until morning, fainter, but still unmistakably Anima.
Cultural impact
Anima sits in the brand's Colour Range collection, a line of scents designed around emotional resonance rather than seasonal trends. The fragrance appeals to wearers who want something personal and introspective rather than performative: warm florals over woody depth, intimate rather than announced, suited to quiet evenings and private moments rather than crowded rooms.
