The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Maison Alhambra released III L'Impressio in 2022, building the scent around watermelon and strawberry as a bright opening, then threading pink peony, damask rose, and magnolia through the heart to give it structural weight and longevity. The combination of these top notes creates an immediate impression of sun-ripened fruit, the kind of sweetness that feels natural rather than synthetic. Watermelon brings that clean, aqueous quality while strawberry adds a deeper red-fruit dimension, and together they establish an opening that feels both refreshing and substantial. Pink peony arrives to soften the fruit's brightness without erasing it, layering in its characteristic soft petal sweetness that bridges the gap between top and heart notes.
Pink peony and damask rose do significant work in the heart of III L'Impressio. The peony brings its characteristic soft, petal-like sweetness that complements rather than competes with the fruit notes still present in the background. Damask rose adds depth with its rich, classic floral signature, creating a heart that feels substantial and well-constructed. The ozonic quality in the opening, where watermelon carries that water-sweet, almost mineral freshness, means the fragrance maintains a certain clarity throughout its development.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately, watermelon first, then strawberry sliding in beside it. The effect is ozonic, almost sparkling, like biting into fruit that has been chilled. For the first portion of wear, the top notes hold prominence, their juicy sweetness filling the space. Then the florals arrive. Pink peony and damask rose take over, with magnolia quietly underneath, and the composition shifts from juicy to lush. By the second hour, the fruit has receded and the heart owns the skin, the peony and rose blending into a seamless floral layer that feels neither powdery nor overly heavy. The base builds slowly: white musk first, providing that clean skin-close quality, then sandalwood warming the skin with its creamy woody depth, and finally smoke, faint, mineral, almost like a memory of burning wood.
Cultural impact
III L'Impressio arrived with a distinctive approach to the fruity-floral category, using a drydown that incorporates smoke alongside more traditional base materials to create something that moves beyond the expected. The watermelon-strawberry-peony combination has earned consistent attention for being both wearable and interesting, offering a level of complexity that distinguishes it from simpler interpretations of this note family. The smoke note, subtle but present, adds an unexpected dimension that sets the fragrance apart from more straightforward fruity-floral options.
