The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2025, Lush partnered with Sanrio for Hello Kitty, bringing the kawaii icon into their fragrance range. The concept takes the sweetness of sugary candyfloss and wraps it inside the clean, comforting scent of freshly laundered blankets. The blend aims to capture playful joy alongside cozy familiarity.
What makes Hello Kitty And Friends work is the tension between cotton candy's synthetic sweetness and the earthiness of patchouli underneath. The vanilla absolute smooths everything into something cohesive rather than chaotic. This fragrance offers simple, comforting sweetness as its strength.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and sweet, cotton candy dissolving in your nostrils, orange oil lifting it with a citrus edge. For about fifteen minutes it smells like fresh laundry and white flowers, a clean moment before the sweetness builds again. The drydown is where it earns its reputation: powdery, creamy vanilla that settles against the skin like a warm hug, with patchouli doing the quiet work of keeping it grounded. The benzoin holds on, a soft, resinous whisper that lingers close to the skin.
Cultural impact
Hello Kitty And Friends brings together Sanrio's globally recognized iconography with Lush's approach to fragrance creation. It pulls from the same note family as Snow Fairy and Milky Bath, familiar territory for Lush devotees, but frames it as something collectible. The packaging is a conversation piece on its own. The fragrance wears its cotton candy and vanilla as a feature, leaning into sweetness as a deliberate choice rather than a compromise.
