The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Antoine Lie built Vanille Havane around a single tension: the warmth of Havana and the sweetness of vanilla. The Extrait Absolu takes that idea and refines it, doubling the concentration to 40%, removing the alcohol entirely. What you get is the same story, told quieter. Where the EDP announces itself with a sharp cacao-booze blast, this version arrives already softened, already intimate. Released in 2023, it gives the people who found the original too forceful a way into the story. Not a redesign. A recalibration.
The oil base changes everything. Alcohol-free and concentrated, the Extrait doesn't project the same way, it blooms against skin instead of filling a room. Vanilla Absolute carries the composition from start to finish, while Comorian vanilla and Colombian cocoa add dimension without competing. Egyptian jasmine threads through the heart, keeping things from becoming too heavy. The result is a fragrance that reveals itself slowly, shifting as your skin chemistry takes over. It's the difference between a conversation across a crowded room and one whispered from inches away.
The evolution
The opening is gentle. Cocoa without the harshness of the EDP, users describe it as smooth, almost soft. Where the original hits you with a sharp cacao-booze blast, this version arrives already warm, already there. Over the next few hours, vanilla deepens into the composition, weaving with dried fruits, plum, dates, raisins, that give it a rich, almost jammy quality. The sillage stays moderate throughout. Not invisible, but not announcing itself either. Ten hours later, what remains is a quiet warmth: vanilla settling into something skin-like, comfortable, worn-in. Not loud. Not trying. Just there.
Cultural impact
The Vanille Havane Extrait Absolu sits within Les Indemodables' anti-disposable niche positioning, a house for collectors who build fragrance wardrobes the way others build libraries. This Extrait version refines the original, giving people who found the EDP too forceful a way into the story. It's the house's answer to the question of what happens when you want the depth without the announcement.
