The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lelas Passionate arrived in 2018 as part of LELAS's growing catalog, a fragrance house whose identity has been shaped by accessible compositions spanning oriental, fresh, and aromatic families. Passionate itself lands squarely in the citrus-aromatic register, a category that rewards clean construction and a light touch. The name suggests intensity, but the scent itself is anything but loud. It opens with the kind of brightness that feels considered rather than aggressive, the citrus notes doing their work without shouting, and the aromatic undercurrent keeping the whole thing grounded. A unisex composition that doesn't perform masculinity or femininity; it just smells like a sharp, composed afternoon.
What makes this composition interesting isn't any single note but the architecture. Citrus-aromatic fragrances often lean either too sharp or too soapy, and the balancing act between galbanum's bitter green bite and the softer warmth of sandalwood and musk in the base is where the real work happens. Blackcurrant in the heart adds a subtle fruitiness that prevents the green tea from reading too austere, while petitgrain bridges the fresh citrus (top) and the woody-musky base. It's a structure designed for skin, not for statement.
The evolution
The first five minutes are all bergamot and mandarin doing what citrus does best: cutting through the air, sharp and immediate. That brightness doesn't fade so much as get reined in, because within ten minutes the green tea and blackcurrant arrive and pull the temperature down. There's a mineral, almost unsweetened quality to the heart that some wearers describe as 'clean laundry with an edge.' The green tea lends a steely, almost vegetative coolness, while the blackcurrant adds a tart, faintly fruity facet that keeps the composition from feeling austere. By the two-hour mark, the galbanum has fully surfaced, that bitter-green resinous note that gives the composition its backbone, and it lingers as a persistent thread through the middle phase.
Cultural impact
Lelas Passionate sits within LELAS's broader portfolio as an accessible, unisex citrus-aromatic composition. The galbanum-and-green-tea heart gives it enough character to set it apart within the category, lending a bitter-green resinous quality that many fresher compositions either avoid or handle less confidently. Galbanum is a notoriously difficult note to balance, prone to reading as harsh or medicinal in less skilled hands, but here it functions as a structural anchor rather than a focal point, giving the fragrance its slightly austere, mineral-leaning character.
