The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Vasilisa Prekrasnaya draws its name from the Russian folk heroine famed for beauty and cleverness. In 2017 perfumer Yana Andreyeva answered Ladanika's call to turn that legend into scent, weaving a narrative of enchanted woods and midnight gatherings. The house, founded in 2016 in Moscow, has built a reputation for translating Russian folklore and natural landscapes into olfactory stories, using both heritage ingredients and modern synthetics.
Ladanika selected each note to reflect a different facet of the Vasilisa legend. The blackcurrant and green notes evoke the wild forest of her tales, while the floral heart represents her famed beauty. The deep, animalic base of civet and patchouli speaks to the darkness she must navigate, and the sacred resins provide the wisdom and resilience that define her character. Tog ether these materials create a fragrance that feels both modern and timeless.
The evolution
The fragrance opens with a bright, tart berry note that immediately signals wildness and vitality. As the top notes soften, mimosa and jasmine emerge to create a floral heart that feels simultaneously delicate and confident, much like the heroine herself. The ylang-ylang adds a tropical warmth that bridges the transition to the drydown, where the true depth appears. Civet brings an animalic, almost feral quality while patchouli grounds the composition with earthy weight, and the final embrace of sandalwood, myrrh, and benzoin creates a warm, resinous conclusion that feels ancient and eternal.
Cultural impact
Since its 2017 debut, Vasilisa Prekrasnaya has sparked conversation for pairing bright berry fruit with a pronounced civet note. Wearers often remark that the fragrance feels like a modern fairy‑tale, bridging playful sweetness and daring animalic depth. It's been highlighted in niche forums as a polarising yet memorable scent, earning a place among Ladanika's storytelling line‑up alongside Ivan Kupala and Bayun the Cat.
