The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Aurum: Latin for gold, the element that has captivated humanity for millennia. The fragrance arrived in 2016 as part of Kemi Blending Magic's exploration of materials and concepts central to the science of transformation. The composition translates this fascination into something wearable, capturing the warmth and luminosity associated with the precious metal in liquid form. What emerges is a scent that balances brightness with depth, drawing on materials that span the citrus garden and the resinous warmth of ancient traditions.
The structure is where it earns attention. Bright citrus opens the composition, bergamot, orange, lemon, creating an immediate, almost sparkling clarity. The rose sits beneath it, not dominant but present, giving the top a warmth that pure citrus alone wouldn't carry. Then the heart introduces sweetness that reads as food without becoming pastry: strawberry and chocolate as ingredients, not gimmick. Labdanum bridges everything that follows, its resinous, slightly smoky quality pulling the composition toward depth as it develops. The base keeps going long after the initial impression fades.
The evolution
The opening arrives cool and bright. Bergamot first, sharp, clean, almost like pressing your nose to a fresh peel. Orange follows with a rounder sweetness, then lemon underneath. Rose weaves through the top notes almost immediately, softening what could have been a sharp citrus bomb into something more considered. As the scent develops, the heart announces itself. Strawberry arrives with a jammy quality, sweet, almost edible. Chocolate follows, darker and warmer. Together they read less like dessert and more like confection: the good kind, the kind that costs too much. Labdanum is the counterweight here, pulling the composition toward resin before it tips fully into gourmand territory. By the drydown, the citrus has softened. The strawberry is quieter. What remains is oud and vanilla, warmed by labdanum's lingering presence. Incense adds a thin line of smoke.
Cultural impact
Aurum arrived as part of the niche perfumery landscape, offering a distinctive take on sweet-oriental compositions. The strawberry-chocolate pairing, combined with oud and labdanum, created a scent that stood apart from more conventional options in its category. Community feedback highlights longevity and sillage as notable strengths, with users noting how the fragrance projects well and lingers on the skin. The fragrance has since been discontinued, which has affected its availability and contributed to its enduring appeal among collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate its unique character.
