Antoine Lie was tasked with translating the brand daring, rule-breaking spirit into a fresh, sporty scent for the modern man. Drawing on Joop! German roots and its reputation for bold, expressive compositions, Lie approached the Sport variant not as a diluted offshoot but as a statement in its own right. The brief was clear: bring the Joop! DNA into a context that reads as clean, active, and energetic while retaining the house unconventional edge.
The note philosophy here reflects a deliberate contrast between mineral-fresh and warm-sweet elements, pushing against the grain of typical sport fragrances. Mint, bergamot, and ginger create an energizing, cool opening; orange blossom and salty skin form an unexpected heart pairing that reads as genuinely marine rather than synthetic; tonka bean anchors the composition with warmth and comfort that prevents the scent from feeling purely functional.
