The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ma Dame Rose'n'Roll landed in 2009 as a limited edition celebrating the anniversary of Ma Dame, JPG's fruity-floral from 2008. To mark the occasion, the house brought in French DJ Martin Solveig to create an exclusive track, Boys and Girls, and packed the scent in special collector's bottles with modern white cases and distinctive patterns. It wasn't just a flank, it was a moment. The name says everything: rose, yes. But roll? That word carries the whole attitude. JPG fragrances have never been polite, and neither is this one.
The note structure does something quietly clever. Orange opens tart and immediate, that bright citrus punch that gets attention without trying. Then the pomegranate and rose arrive together, and here's where it gets interesting. Pomegranate is tart-sweet, almost berry-like. Rose is warm, classic, floral. They shouldn't balance each other so well, but they do. The rose keeps the pomegranate's brightness in check, preventing it from becoming too sharp. The pomegranate, in turn, offers a subtle counterweight to the rose's floral sweetness.
The evolution
The opening announces itself immediately. Orange, bright and tart, like biting into a fresh citrus fruit. There's a crispness to it, a natural sharpness that doesn't apologize for itself. The heart follows as rose and pomegranate arrive together, creating a fruity-floral sweetness that feels both soft and assertive. By the drydown, musk and cedar emerge, settling into something warm, powdery, and close to the skin. The base notes create an intimate quality, a quiet warmth that stays near rather than projecting outward. The scent lingers softly, fading to a gentle whisper that remains close and personal.
Cultural impact
JPG fragrances have never been wallflowers. Ma Dame Rose'n'Roll continues that tradition. The 2009 limited edition status and the Martin Solveig collaboration added cultural currency for collectors, while the original Ma Dame's fruity-floral character ensured this anniversary edition carried a similar spirit forward.
