The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Silvana Casoli named this one Nuda, Italian for naked. The name alone suggests something stripped bare, a fragrance stripped to its essentials. What if it smelled like skin, only better? The question seems simple, but the answer required careful composition. Nuda does not announce itself; it reveals itself slowly, intimately, in the space closest to the wearer. It asks you to lean in, to pay attention, to experience something that feels less like perfume and more like a second skin, one that happens to smell better than the original.
The fragrance opens with tart brightness, berries that are sharp enough to catch attention but soft enough to stay close. This initial pop gives way to a powdered floral heart, where the iris takes center stage, lending a delicate, powdery softness that feels almost intangible. The base settles into warmth rather than structure, a foundation that embraces rather than dominates. Oakmoss does quiet anchoring work, providing an earthy undertone that grounds the composition without overwhelming it. The pistachio adds a slight nuttiness that keeps the sweetness from ever becoming sugary.
The evolution
The top notes arrive without ceremony. Red berries and blackberry sit close to the skin from the first spray, there's no citrus, no sharp opening, no cold water moment to announce arrival. Just fruit, slightly sweetened by honey, sitting warm against the skin. The opening is immediate and intimate, a soft whisper rather than a shout. As the minutes pass, the composition shifts subtly, the berries mellowing as the iris emerges, pulling the fragrance toward powder without ever becoming dusty or chalky. Peach keeps the transition soft, ensuring that the heart feels warm rather than cold or distant. The heart itself feels like a second skin, lingering for hours as the composition deepens rather than disappears. When the drydown arrives, it doesn't replace the heart so much as deepen it. Musk moves to the surface, warm and animal without being aggressive. Oakmoss grounds everything.
Cultural impact
Nuda occupies an interesting position in the niche market. Its approach to fragrance, focused on closeness and intimacy rather than projection and presence, represents a distinct philosophy of scent. The fragrance was discontinued at some point after 2010, which has made it harder to find but also more interesting to those who seek it out. For those who discover it, the scent offers something different: a fragrance that asks you to come closer rather than announcing itself from across the room.
