The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Billion Dollar Oud arrived in 2024 as one of five inaugural fragrances from House of Fanatics, a house rooted in Spain that launched its entire debut collection at once. The brand partnered with a perfumer to bring each concept to life, and Billion Dollar Oud carried the weight of a flagship statement piece. The name isn't subtle. Neither is the composition. Saffron, pink pepper, and nutmeg form a spicy opening that leads directly into caramel, Cashmeran, and Akigalawood before settling into a base of vanilla, oud, and amber. Every element was chosen to build density. Nothing is dialed back. Nothing whispers. The spices crackle against each other in the opening, saffron lending a leathery, almost peppery heat while pink pepper adds a bright, sharp fizz that lifts the blend off the skin.
The use of Akigalawood is worth noting. Paired with Cashmeran, it creates a heart that feels plush but grounded, a bridge between the bright spice of the opening and the heavier, more resinous base. Akigalawood brings a smooth, slightly woody depth that softens the transition from the sharp top notes into the denser caramel and gourmand territory that follows. Cashmeran, sitting beside it, adds its own dimension, a dry warmth that keeps the heart from feeling overly sweet or sticky.
The evolution
The opening belongs to the spice. Saffron and pink pepper hit the skin with genuine heat, almost peppery enough to taste. Nutmeg weaves underneath, adding a woody warmth that prevents the opening from feeling sharp. The transition into the heart comes gradually, and the caramel arrives not as a dessert note but as a textural shift. The composition thickens, gaining a kind of molten weight that wasn't there before. Akigalawood softens everything, smoothing the spice into something richer, while Cashmeran adds its own warmth, giving the heart an expensive, almost papery dryness that lifts it beyond simple gourmand territory. As the wear continues, the vanilla and oud take fuller ownership of the composition. The caramel recedes but never disappears. It lingers as a sweetness beneath the woody, slightly leathery oud, creating a base that smells like warm skin in good lighting.
Cultural impact
Billion Dollar Oud sits within House of Fanatics' debut collection as the most opulent of the five. Wearers gravitate toward it for cooler months and evening occasions, drawn by its warmth and longevity. The caramel-vanilla base gives it a sweetness that distinguishes it from drier, more austere oud compositions, while the saffron and pink pepper in the opening keep it from falling into simple gourmand territory. It's a fragrance that balances indulgence with structure, warmth with edge.
