The evolution

The first thirty minutes are all citrus. Bergamot and grapefruit arrive bright and almost sharp enough to cut through the air around you, and ginger rolls in underneath, delivering warmth without smoke or burn. The opening has a clarity that reads immediately as deliberate, every note arriving in quick succession without crowding the others. By the end of the first hour, the top has handed off to the heart. Cardamom takes the lead here, warm and faintly sweet, while sage threads through it with an herbal current that gives the middle phase a cooling counterweight. Cedar lends the whole stage a dry backbone, its pencil-like grain keeping the composition upright. Rose and geranium are present in this phase but never loud, adding a soft floral dimension that enriches the spices without competing for attention.
