The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Oro Verde arrived in 2024 as part of the Tesoro Collection from House of BŌ. The name means green gold, a reference to the precious, verdant character of the composition itself. Designed by perfumer Adriana Medina-Baez, the fragrance opens with bright citrus and green notes that feel both lively and grounded. The composition moves through herbal and watery accords, building layers of complexity without ever feeling forced. What emerges is a scent that captures the freshness of morning dew on leaves, balanced by deeper, earthier undertones that give it substance and staying power.
The note structure does something unusual. Watermelon appears as a heart note but shows up most prominently in the opening, that juicy, almost translucent sweetness arrives first, before the basil and vetiver fully establish themselves. Cannabis and mate form a green-herbal base that most fragrance buyers have never encountered in this context. Neither hemp-forward nor tea-straightjacketed, the combination reads as cool, slightly smoky, and deeply aromatic. Palo Santo anchors the drydown with a smoky-woody warmth that stops the whole thing from going flat.
The evolution
The opening hits fresh and green, bergamot cutting through the humidity, mate lending a bitter-herbal edge that refuses to be polite. Watermelon sweetness appears and then retreats faster than expected, swallowed by basil's green bite and vetiver's earthy hum. As the top notes fade, the heart reveals itself through evolving layers of aromatic greenery and mineral freshness. Palo Santo wood emerges in the later stages, its smoky, meditative warmth replacing the initial brightness. Ambergris adds a faint salty-mineral animalic warmth, while tree moss holds everything down to earth. The finish is quiet and close, lingering softly on the skin.
Cultural impact
House of BŌ occupies a distinctive position in niche perfumery, artisanal and deliberate in its approach. Oro Verde performs best in spring and summer, with the fresh-green-aquatic character working across casual and professional daytime settings. Community reception has been positive on balance, with the notable exception of the cannabis note, which divides opinion without being a dealbreaker for most wearers.
