The beginning
Velvet arrived in 2024 as part of Hint's Fabric Series, a collection built around the textures you can almost feel before you name them. Silk. Cotton. Leather. Velvet rounds the set with something warmer, heavier, meant for cooler air and lower light. The brand built its identity on subtlety, on scent that suggests rather than announces, and Velvet pushes that idea toward indulgence without abandoning the whisper. It's the richer member of the series, the one that pulls deeper into sweetness and warmth, while still keeping the sillage measured and the wear personal. Cinnamon and almond set the tone in the opening, a marzipan-like sweetness that feels baked rather than bright.
What makes Velvet interesting is the cinnamon-almond pairing up top. Almond carries a marzipan softness that softens cinnamon's sharp edges, turning a spice that can read harsh or aggressive into something almost pastry-like. That tension between warmth and sweetness is the whole composition's engine. Add rose and orange blossom in the heart, two florals that rarely get cast as the background, and the middle stage becomes unexpectedly plush. Then sandalwood, tonka, and vanilla ground everything in a base that feels more confection than wood. Most fragrances that lean this sweet skip the floral middle entirely. The evolution
The opening lands warm and almost immediate. Cinnamon and almond come through first, with mandarin threading just enough citrus brightness to keep the sweetness from going flat. That first ten minutes is the most assertive Velvet gets. Within half an hour, the cinnamon softens and the rose arrives, carrying orange blossom with it. The middle stage reads less like a floral and more like amber wearing florals, warm and slightly resinous. By the two-hour mark, the top notes have mostly stepped back, and what stays is the base: sandalwood giving vanilla and tonka a creamy wooden frame. The almond sweetness that opened the fragrance fades into something drier and more wood-driven as the hours pass, and the tonka takes on a soft, almost smoky edge.
