The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Kuwaiti Imperial belongs to Gissah's Signature Collection, the line that carries the brand's most emblematic city-inspired names. Released in 2026, it draws directly from Kuwait itself, not the postcard version, but the feeling of stepping off a flight in summer, the air heavy with amber warmth and citrus from a vendor's tray. The creative direction started with a place. Kuwaiti Imperial takes the home country's sensory signature and translates it into a contemporary oriental-ambery profile built from Italian citrus, pink pepper, and a tonka-sandalwood heart. The opening is bright and uncomplicated. Italian bergamot and orange peel bring a clean, sunlit lift, while pink pepper adds a crisp warmth that wakes up the citrus rather than weighing it down.
What's interesting here is what Gissah chose to highlight. The geranium-tonka pairing in the heart is doing real work. Geranium brings a green, slightly herbal lift that prevents the tonka's coumarin sweetness from going syrupy. It adds structure without weight, almost like a quiet scaffolding holding the creamy middle together. Calabrian bergamot opens the composition with a sharpness that sets the tone. It has a clean, almost peppery edge, a brightness that feels lifted rather than flat.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are the loudest. Calabrian bergamot and orange hit bright, almost fizzy, and the pink pepper adds a clean heat that tingles just behind the nose. On fabric, this opening can read sharper; on skin, the citrus warms up immediately, settling into something more rounded within minutes. Twenty minutes in, the bergamot recedes and geranium takes the wheel. It's green, slightly herbal, with a fresh aromatic quality that lifts the whole composition and keeps it from sitting too heavy. The geranium has a clean, leafy character that adds a touch of brightness to the heart. The tonka arrives quietly underneath, creamy, almond-like, slightly hay-sweet. The coumarin edge of the tonka shows itself gently, giving the middle stage a soft, edible warmth without tipping into anything gourmand.
Cultural impact
Kuwaiti Imperial occupies a specific place in contemporary regional perfumery. It's a Kuwaiti composition built around bergamot, tonka, and sandalwood, three materials more often found in European luxury houses than in traditional attar formulations. That structural choice gives it a distinctive identity within Gissah's own catalogue, setting it apart from oud-led and resin-heavy regional releases. The bergamot-tonka-sandalwood architecture gives the fragrance a polished, contemporary feel.
